The Alpine Garden Societies & Conservation
This is such a good example of the value of discussion and sharing of experiences between the Scottish Rock Garden Club and its Forum, the Alpine Garden Society, and professional naturalists and scientists involved in conservation and ecological study of plants in Snowdonia and Mid Wales that I would like to share it here - see:
http://www.srgc.net/forum/index.php?topic=13606.0
and describing Cwm Idwal:

and the lakes at Cregennan (on Cader Idris):

These two videos are clear and excellently produced and I learnt a great deal from watching them and would like to thank Tristan for giving the links to them on the SRGC Forum (Places to Visit - Cwm Idwal).
(these examples of ongoing conservation and understanding of the ecology of mountain landscapes arose from discussion on the Regulatory threats facing the growing and distribution of plants, which has engendered strong debate on the SRGC Forum, and for me does show the importance of the specialist plant societies in the broad sense of really coming to understand plants and the ways landscapes and diversity can be protected. It also confirms the value of a Forum such as that of the SRGC which enables gardeners to share their experiences and insights in this way)
